First lets talk about breakfast, the most important meal of your day.

Start breakfast with a healthy protein such as eggs or yogurt include fruits such as blueberries, raspberries or even apples. Try sprinkling a dose of healthy oats on top of greek yogurt for extra fiber.

Stay away from processed foods such as donuts, bagels and cookies. They have lots of sugar which can make you feel tired during the day.

If you need a cup of coffee to start your day, go for it, just stay away from the caramel sweetened drinks, go for a plain coffee, and sprinkle cinnamon on top for added flavor.  There’re a number of studies that show that cinnamon can help protect us against infections, obesity and diabetes but most important cinnamon in your coffee taste great and it’s packed with antioxidants.

If coffee is not your you thing, try a hot cup of tea. Tazo makes some delicious blends. my favorite is the lemongrass and spearmint Zen tea.  Just steep your tea to your desired taste and Wella! A great way to start your day. Researchers have found that drinking green tea can increase your metabolism over a twenty four hour period. Go ahead click the link for delicious Tazo tea.

Add weights to your workout. The more muscle you have the more calories you burn.  Just starting with five pound weights can help to increase your muscle and burn more calories.

Spice up your soups and salad.  I love to add jalapeños to my salad to spice it up.  Spicy foods are known to help speed up your metabolism.  If you don’t like jalapeño try sprinkling chili powder or crushed red pepper flakes in your soup.  It’s delicious!

Make sure you are getting plenty of sleep.  The longer you stay awake the more likely you will eat late at night.  Going to sleep on a full stomach is a sure way to add extra pounds to your waist.  So get your Z’s. It’s recommended that we get between seven and eight hours of sleep at night.  Studies have shown that people who get the recommended sleep have a better chance at maintaining a healthier weight.

If you have a lot on your mind, keep a pen and pad on your nightstand to jot it down. It may help you relax so that you can go to sleep. Also, try stretching before bed, it may help to ease your mind, body and spirit for a better nights sleep.
