Are Avocados Healthy

Avocados are an excellent source of vitamins C, E, K, B6, Riboflavin, Folate, magnesium, potassium and full of Omega-3 fatty acids, beta carotene and lutein. They are also high in fiber.

Most of the calories in an avocado come from fat, but don’t shy away, it’s the good fat such as monounsaturated which lowers LDL (bad) cholesterol levels reducing the risk of heart attack and stroke.

How to Tell If Your Avocado is Ripe?

Gently squeeze the avocado, if it’s hard as a rock, leave it on the counter for about 2 to 3 days, if it’s slightly soft, it’s ripe and ready to eat. If you squeeze your avocado and if feels like a tomato, leave it, it’s over ripened.

Avocado Toast

Avocados have a delicious buttery flavor, it’s one of my favorite fruits. I love it on toast with a sprinkle of garlic, if I need something hardier I’ll add an egg or a slice of turkey.

I’ll eat avocados anytime, breakfast, lunch or dinner. Avocados are great chopped in a salad, on a burger or sandwich, as guacamole, a dip for chips.

Avocados are a power house! Pick one up the next time you visit your supermarket.
