I love New York

Sometimes It’s the small things

The photo above was taken while on vacation in my favorite city New York.  I’m a New Yorker at heart, you never know who or what you might see while strolling or site seeing in the city. It was our second time visiting New York (I had a long distance love affair with the city). We had just escaped the labyrinth of paths in Riverside Park (yes we got lost) and were happy to be on familiar territory bobbing along the upper west side not looking for anything in particular just enjoying the neighborhood and architecture when we saw what we thought was just another Cafe.

At the time we were standing on the opposite side of the street when we stopped to admire the Cafe. There was something vaguely familiar and we were certain we’d never walked down the street before. That’s when it hit us. That ah-ha! moment or what we like to say ta-ha! moment. We stood there glued to the spot eyes fixated on this Cafe then in unison we both turned and looked at the other as we shouted Cafe Lola! The Cafe from my favorite movie You’ve Got Mail. OMG!  We scrambled for our phones to take pictures. Take my picture! Take my picture! I said to my daughter.

We crossed the street and began taking photos in front of the Cafe. Then without a second pause we ran inside. The restaurant looked just as it did in the movie.  For a moment I was mesmerized. There was a cool and collected young lady wearing an apron leaning against a counter with her arms crossed in front of her looking curiously at the both of us. “Would you like to have a seat?” she said. Um, yes, I replied nervously. Here’s my chance to sit in the seat where Meg Ryan sat in the movie. I took a deep breath to collect myself then calmly walked across the room and sat down. I giggled at my daughter as she shook her head and laughed at me. I didn’t care. At that moment I was sitting in my favorite movie in my favorite city.  I just love New York.
